Book Hiatus
My furious book reading habit has slowed down dramatically in the last few months. I'm kinda stuck on the “A Different Kind of Teacher” book I picked up in August. It's a good book that makes some really good points, but it hasn't really gotten me all that hooked. It's frustrating to see how screwed up our school system is. The author offers some great suggestion that he's applied with success, but the book is from the early 90s and his theories haven't really taken the world by storm, which is a damn shame.
I've been spending a lot of time getting through a huge stack of magazines (mostly Newsweek and US News & World Report) that I have sitting in a pile on my floor. Every time I get the pile smaller, the mailman brings me new weekly issues. I enjoy keeping up on current day events, so it's alright. Once the election is over in two weeks my current event fixation should dull tho. I think I might actually read the 9/11 Report as my next book. I picked it up a bit ago and it's actually suppose to be a good read. Like everything else going on in the world, it might get me too frustrated at our country's failures. Another consideration is the new George Carlin book that just came out. That should be a good light and funny read. Once I figure out what's next, I'll post something.
