I'm sending back the new Media Center PC I purchased earlier this month that I'm just not happy with. I'll post more about the experience in a bit, but before I boxed the system up today I decided to use a program called SecurErase to delete the data on the hard drive. The company behind the product sent me a review copy earlier this year and I hadn't had a chance to check it out. At around 1:30pm today, I booted the system with the CD. The software has two erase choices: “Normal SecurErase” and “Government SecurErase”. For chuckles, I decided to select “Government SecurErase”. The drive is 200GB and it took forever! I just checked and it looks like it was completed at 8:13pm. The system is now deleted and “meets DoD 5220-22-M Specification”. woo!
